European day of Languages<\/h1>\n
Are you interested in foreign languages and intercultural exchange? Would you like to make new friends and take part in interesting games that improve your knowledge about different languages and cultures? Would you like to learn something new about gypsy culture and Romani language and dialects? Would you like to know which are the most remarkable peculiarities of minority languages like Basque or Frisian?<\/p>\n
Then you should definitely come to the European Day of Languages event that we have organised for you! Take part by filling in the next form before Wednesday, 16th of November, at 23:59 CET.<\/p>\n
We’ll celebrate this exciting event on Thursday, 17th of November from 16.00 on in the room P1G1A<\/strong> of the Engineering School of Bilbao<\/strong> (see the map and plan below). But what exactly is the European Day of Languages? The Council of Europe established it in 2001, in order to make people aware of the importance of learning new languages and to promote the cultural and linguistic diversity of Europe. We want to convey the message that language skills are not only important for professional or career aspects, but also to achieve a better cooperation and strengthen mutual understanding and friendship between different countries.<\/p>\n
Since 2001, AEGEE follows the example of the Council of Europe and many AEGEE branches all over Europe celebrate the language diversity of our continent every year in November. This is the first time that this special event is organised by AEGEE-Bilbao, so you can’t miss this opportunity!<\/p>\n
Program<\/h2>\n
16.00-16.15:<\/strong> Introductory presentation<\/p>\n
16.00-17.15:<\/strong> Presentation about Romani language and gypsy culture. Speaker: Oscar Bizarraga. The speaker will talk in Spanish, but the Powerpoint presentation will be in English.<\/p>\n
17.15-18.15:<\/strong> Presentation about Tosta project (a cultural project about minority languages in the Atlantic Coast). Speakers: Asier Basurto and Iker Martinez de Lagos. The speakers will talk in Basque, but the Powerpoint presentation will be in English.<\/p>\n
18.15-18.30:<\/strong> Break. Drinks will be available.<\/p>\n
18.30-19.30:<\/strong> Language diversity workshop with games (language quiz, game about idioms, guess the language, names of celebrities, tongue twisters in foreign languages, Taboo, etc.)<\/p>\n
19.30-20.30:<\/strong> Language tandem with international students. Learn and practise different languages with native speakers, make new friends and learn about other cultures in a relaxed informal atmosphere.<\/p>\n

WHAT TO BRING?<\/strong> Just a mobile phone and your best mood! We will use an app called \u201cKahoot!\u201d, which you can download for free from the Play Store.<\/p>\n
